Glacier Alley, Chilean Fjords, Patagonia

Holanda (Holland)

Here we are down at the tip of South America and our ship is making its way north. Leaving Ushuaia on our way up to Chile, we cruised through Glacier Alley. It is along a 150-mile-long strait known as the Beagle Channel, described by Charles Darwin during his adventures on his ship, The Beagle. Glacier Alley is a shorter section of the channel that showcases 5 tidewater glaciers, named after European countries. These massive blue glaciers flow from the Darwin Icefield in Southern Patagonia.

Italia (Italy)

It was very, very windy and cold and then the high winds and rain set in. We were able to capture one or two glaciers from high up on the ship but once the high winds kicked in, we were kicked out but the crew. Not safe to be up that high. It was truly windy. So, we retreated to a friend’s cabin with a balcony where we could see quite a bit and even looked for wildlife along the way. Unfortunately, none here today. My opinion? Too cold and windy!

Italia (Italy)
These little waterfalls were everywhere
Francia (France)

The 5 glaciers are named after European countries as a nod to the home of the 19th-century explorers who mapped out the region. The names are Holanda (Holland); Italia (Italy); Francia (France); Alemania (Germany); and Romanche, which isn’t actually a country but the name of a boat. Hopefully I named all of these correctly.

Alemania (Germany)

It was a very cold ride but so much beautiful blue ice, waterfalls, mountains, etc… I could just watch it forever in awe of Gods beauty.

Romanche – the most beautiful of all

Another short post but not much to say about these. There are no words to explain, you just have to be here. These photos sure dont do it justice!

Alemania (Germany)
WOW!
Look at the difference in the water colors
For me? This looked like a big polar bears paw print on top of the mountain!
Looks like a watercolor doesn’t it? Wow!
An amazing end! No selfies today, way too windy!

May God bless you always!
