A slight change of course

We are at sea today and as I mentioned before we had to change our route to Antarctica due to weather disturbance causing high winds and waves.

We don’t want to be in the orange.

We attended a discussion with the captain , who explained our current and upcoming weather conditions and what changes he and Royal Caribbean are putting together to make it more comfortable for the passengers.

Early tomorrow morning we will enter the Drake Passage, named after the 16th century English explorer Sir Francis Drake, and should start to feel its effects.

This stretch of water is considered one of the most treacherous voyages for ships to make.

When the captain explained the reasoning for the changes we were grateful!

Before his change of course, we were headed to 40 ft waves. Since we changed we are now expecting only 19 ft waves. Not surprising, Chuck is disappointed. I married a crazy man!

We are here today

We also got the bonus news that, weather permitting, the ship will deviate near Elephant Island so we get to see A32, the world’s largest iceberg. He also indicated we will probably see some snow

We are mostly looking forward to seeing the wildlife along the way. There have already been some whale sightings. Have yet to see one though.

With the temperatures getting down to snowy weather we will need to change out our shorts for sweaters.

Stay tuned, hopefully I’ll have something to show you soon!

May God bless you always.

Chuck and Lea Ann

  1. Hope all goes well for you both on this leg of your trip, trading 40′ waves for 19 footers still sounds pretty scary to Landlover Lee. Stay safe miss you two. Lee
