We had the pleasure to be here in Jersey during their annual event that started back in 1902 called “The Jersey Battle of Flowers”.

It grew from an event in 1902 to celebrate the Coronation of King Edward VII.

The parade was so popular that it was held again the following year and named “The Battle of Flowers.”
The 1952 battle was special because not only did it help celebrate the accession of Queen Elizabeth II, but it was also the 50th anniversary of the event, watched by more than 40,000 spectators and included more than 100 entries.

The major floats are usually produced by the parishes of Jersey. We are currently staying in Grouville Parish and during one of our daily while walks we saw them building the floats.

It was a great experience and we were so excited to be able to participate, although only for an hour or two.

| The penguins on this float were so cute |
This makes it easier for the person putting it on the float to grab and glue it to the float. We did walk away with a couple of green fingernails.

| Chewbacca |
They spend all night to get the float finalized and drive it at approximately 5:30 am the next morning to the area of the parade that doesn’t start until 2:30 pm.

All I keep thinking is WOW, that’s a lot of work! But, after sitting through the parade and seeing the finished floats, bands playing and dancers, they have a lot to be proud of. This was well done and well planned.

Bummer! I think that would we be awesome! There is a second parade the following night. Called the Moonlight Parade, the floats are decorated in lights and the evening ends with a large fireworks display.
