Cleaning and Watching storms

Beautiful home up on the hill

The cleaning lady is coming tomorrow. We weren’t aware we had one so its a very nice surprise. We knew the linens would be changed weekly but wasn’t made aware she would be cleaning as well. There’s really not much to do. We typically clean up after ourselves and keep “stuff” put away. If she cleans the floors and bathroom and changes the sheets, then I’m ecstatic!

We have had this huge seagull that drops by every day and sits on the balcony.  I’m assuming it’s the same one. They all look alike! So far he hasn’t made a mess. He sits there and stares at Chuck the entire time or he starts squawking or squealing. He makes a few different sounds.

Chucks new best friend

We know he’s wanting food but he doesn’t get any! When we get tired of hearing him we have to shoo him away. He’ll be back later. I have been collecting sand from the different beaches we have been to for a later project when I return home. The sand I collected from Omaha beach was still wet so I set it out to dry in a Ziploc bag with it opened.

I usually bring them inside but forgot when we went to pick up a few groceries today. We came back and that dang seagull had my sand scattered all over the balcony! I was ready to wring his neck! I saved enough for my project and cleaned up the mess. He may still be Chucks friend, but not mine!

The grocery market is about 1 mile from the apartment so a 2 mile round trip. We are trying to walk at least 2 miles a day. The most we have walked is 5 and it nearly killed us! Took 2 days to recover, but we are trying to stay healthy.

When leaving one town and entering another, the name is crossed out on the sign.

Although, it’s very difficult to eat healthy. Its hard to find our normal foods that we eat such as almond milk, coffee cream, no salt chips, certain vegetables and fruits just aren’t available or we have a hard time translating the language to English, even with google translate. And the bread and pasta here are top notch so no cutting corners there. We just try not to buy too much of those two. The food is amazing the little times we eat out. When we cook, which is most of the time, we are using “real butter”, “whole milk”, “real pasta” and non-preservative breads. It could be worse!

Exploring a quant little community during our walk.

They have a brand here called “BIO”. We are pretty sure that’s the organic brand. Its only on 1 isle just like most US supermarkets and the cost is much more significant. We will do the best we can and eat healthy as often as we are able and not worry about it!

We called our Twingo a Twinkie. This “Twizy” made our Twinkie look like a full size cake!

The storms are heavy tonight. Lots of crazy lightning and loud thunder. Power is flickering on and off. Thank goodness we brought mini flashlights. Its those little things we thought about bringing that we may use just once but when we need it, we’ll have it.

These pastry shops are so hard walk by but we do. We promised ourselves we would get at least one before we leave.

May God bless you always and your night be peaceful!

Chuck & Lea Ann

  1. Yum! Nothing like French pastries! We’re so glad you two are enjoying France, which was Catherine’s home for the first 12 years of her life. We hope to go back next year to visit family. -Michael and Catherine Smith
