💖 Today is my brothers birthday! Happy birthday Pee Wee. Miss you! 💞
Today was also one of the most successful days we’ve had since our arrival in Spain.
Bus card
Bus ticket
We figured out the bus schedule! The busses here are really nice. We took the bus from just outside our apartment. However to get there, we had to walk that long path due to my ankle.

All the normal tourist collectables that we would normally buy but we have no room.
I’m improving much faster than I expected but my foot is still swelling in the evening from the walking and it hurts to climb stairs.

Tourist items made from tile.
On flat ground its much easier, so for now we’ll stick to the long way around. I keep my ankle wrapped in an ace bandage to protect it and keep from easily twisting it. So far so good!

Mailboxes. The mailman rode a yellow scooter that matched.
We bought a ticket for the zone we were traveling. It was 1.55 euros/$1.73 in USD. If we had a refillable multi-ride card it would only cost 1.10 euros/$1.23. That would save us $.50 per ride per person. When we arrived at our stop, we walked to the tobacco shop as they were the majority of the shops that sold them. We had to pay 10 euros for the card plus 1.80 euros that was refundable once we return the card. So, we are just “borrowing” the card to get the cheaper rides and then returning it. Makes sense.
We were close to the same area we were last week but not downtown. We stayed near the beach this time (and walked a total of 3 miles). We had lunch at Sabatinis.

Sabatinis restaurant. The roof opens to the sky.
It was a cute little Greek/Italian restaurant. The service was great and the food was pretty good.

The lights and plants around the restaurant were nicely decorated.
Chuck had a Calzone and I had Chicken on a stick. (kabobs) Most everyone around us spoke English so it was nice to feel like we are having a little more conversation than with just each other.

Good news is the menus were in english too.
We did meet a nice guy on the bus from Poland. With his very limited English and our zero polish languages, we did the best we could to communicate and we did OK. We were able to find out about his job and a little bit about what bus to take and how to navigate on the bus system so all in all, it wasn’t bad at all.

Playa de Santa Ana beach
This area is definitely geared towards tourists. Peddlers selling anything from Michael Kors knockoffs to Rolex watches. Small hole in the wall restaurants lined the beaches.

Bil Bil Castle.
One of the “must see places” around Benalmadena is the Bil Bil Castle. It was not open for visitors but we walked around and took some pictures.

The story on this castle is that its really not a castle. Its an Arabic style building similar to ones found in Morocco. It is used for weddings, concerts and exhibitions of all kinds. There wasn’t much to it but it was pretty to look at. The red colors really stood out.
Another sculpture we came upon was a gigantic metal structure with mini wind vanes all around it in the middle of a roundabout. For those that may not know, a roundabout is when you have an intersection with no lights and its one large circle that cars feed in and out of. They are all over this area and are said to be more efficient in moving traffic. It appears to work well here. The wind vanes were so cute to watch and the colors were pretty.

Looking to the beach from the boardwalk. The small areas up front were sunbathers blocked off by tents.
We walked along the boardwalk or promenade just beside the beach. We crossed more restaurants and beach umbrellas and sunbathers. Umbrellas and two, very comfortable beach chairs cost 10 euros a day. I’ve seen the ones here in Florida go for $40/day. Huge difference.

A beautiful sandcastle made with sand and painted colors and a working train. It was amazing.
We decided to pick up a few more groceries at the Mercadano in town since ours is still closed.

Another sculpture lining the streets. This one has a man made waterfall in the middle.
Here you pay for plastic bags, 10 cents (in euros) each and if you want a cart to pick up your groceries around the store, you pay another 50 cents (euros).

Couldn’t help it! Torso sculpture (naked) made from Calatorao stone. Its a black limestone
However today, different store, smaller carts, no charge! I think we’ll continue with this store. If we had thought to bring our bags from home, it would have saved us from buying more.

Boardwalk/Promenade along the beach.
I think the US needs to charge for the plastic, maybe people would use their own more often.

Its not every day that you see a Rolls-Royse!
Recycling is a big deal over here too. I like the way this country is trying to improve the environment.
We made it back home, on the bus, with our groceries. A full, nice day. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Now on to relaxing the rest of the evening.
May God bless you always!

The car with the speaker is how they did political advertising in Kenya back in 1979! Oh, and I've heard that they do charge for grocery bags in California. I wish more people would use the reusable bags like I do. It's not hard once you get in the habit. The weather looks great! Love your updates.Susan

It must be getting closer to election day. I need to find out when it is. They are more frequent and we rode the bus around town today and posters are EVERYWHERE!!
