Washy Washy

Colorful homes with white apartments/homes in the backdrop built on the sides of the mountains

Washy Washy! That saying always cracks me up. Each time we go in the dining room on a cruise ship, one of the crew members always stands at the entrance with a bottle of sanitizer and he always said that. It was so cute and he always made us laugh.

Chuck and I laugh each time we do laundry because we always say “washy, washy!” Being able to do laundry is one of our criteria for choosing a home away from home. When looking at places to live during our travels we use HomeAway.com. Its similar to Airbnb. We have to put in certain criteria when searching. Our criteria has always been waterfront, internet, at least one bedroom, a stove, a TV, pool and laundry machines. In reading the fine print, I failed to notice that sometimes it only says washer but not a dryer. Here in Benalmadena, we do have a small washer that will wash the capacity of about 4 pairs of Chucks jeans. Not bad, we can handle that. What we do not have is a dryer! So guess what we do have? A clothesline on one of the balconies. (glad we have two!)

Empty clothes rack on the balcony

I will never ever make fun of my friends at church who still hang their clothes out on the line. Its really not bad. They are stiff but clean and that’s all that matters. Due to the small balcony, not sure how we’ll handle sheets though.

2 loads of laundry which consisted of 4 pants, 4 shirts 3 pair of sock. Took most of the day to dry. Its cooler here today.

Another thing we noticed is that many of the food items we purchase do not have calorie counts marked on them. I wonder why? Don’t know but I love it! The butter tastes amazing, unfortunately the chocolate does too!

When Chuck and I first got sick and after my fall, he bought some items at the grocery store and we are really bad about needing comfort food if we aren’t feeling well. So he brought home some wonderful milk chocolate for me and potato chips for him. We aren’t comforted by the same thing. I’m happy he’s not eating my chocolate and he doesn’t want me digging into his chips! Ying and Yang. Unfortunately the chocolate bar has kcal on the back so kilocalories is clearly marked. Bummer! At this point, just choosing to ignore it.

Chocolate is recognizable in ANY language!

We will make do wherever we go. If we have to hang clothes on a line, use a foreign cook stove without instructions or buy comfort food to get us by, we will and we will survive! That’s the fun part of this adventure.

Enjoy your day!

May God bless you all!

  1. I enjoy hearing about your journey! I think you should definitely try chocolate in every country, as a scientific comparison. 🙂 I do want to see a pic of the sheets drying. LOL

  2. I would miss the dryer for the sheets… but put most of my clothes in for about 10 minutes and THEN hang them out to dry. You can't beat the fresh smell of air dried clothes. Who cares about calories??? Enjoy every present moment AND bite of that chocolate!!
