Prin Christian Sund, Greenland fjords

Leaving Iceland yesterday we had no idea what was in store for us inside these fjords in Greenland. But we soon found out, with lots of hot chocolate and layers of coats and gloves, just how beautiful they are.

Cruising through Prin Christian Sund, a majestic fjord in Greenland, we witnessed a land so beautiful it was hard to think about how incredibly cold it really was! Thank goodness the sun kisses warmed us up a little.

The crystal clear skies and calm waters provided a perfect day to explore this breathtaking natural wonder.

Greenland’s fjords, including Prin Christian Sund, were formed over millions of years as glaciers carved deep valleys into the island’s landscape. As the climate warmed and the glaciers retreated, these valleys filled with seawater, creating the stunning fjords we see today. The sheer scale and beauty of these fjords make them a must-see for any visitor to Greenland. I’m willing to brace the cold and come back!

Prin Christian Sund is one of the largest fjords in Greenland, stretching for approximately 62 miles. While the area is sparsely populated, there are a few small settlements located along its shores, including the historic town of Tasiusaq. We didn’t make it as far as this village because darkness set in and we retreated to the warmth of the ship.

Tasiusaq is a settlement in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland, founded in 1933. Its population is only 53.

As we cruised through Prin Christian Sund, we were treated to a breathtaking display of natural wonders. The fjord is known for its towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and majestic icebergs. We spotted several large chunks of icebergs but only a couple of glaciers. The sheer size and beauty of these icebergs is truly awe-inspiring.

That’s not a toy!

This was an incredible day. We loved our trip around Antarctica with its snowy white mountains and glaciers and now we saw a different aspect at the opposite side of the world here in Greenland, another beautiful icy wonderland.

I wouldn’t mind coming back.

I didn’t see the need to add captions. The beauty of the landscape speaks for itself!

We are visiting a small island of Greenland next, the name is Qaqortog.

The girls!

May God bless you always!
