Today was quite the adventure that was totally unexpected! Although our captain has always warned us about a rocking ship, I’m not sure he expected this so quickly. As our world cruise was about 24 hours from arriving in to Iceland, our journey turned out to be anything but smooth sailing. We watched the waves start building and soon we were met with hurricane force winds and 25-foot waves. Of course we didn’t know that until the captain came into our cabins over the intercom system, which is rare.

It was a wild ride! The ship was rocking and rolling so much that it was difficult to stand without losing your balance. Holding on to hand rails was mandatory! Dishes and food were flying off the buffet line, and wine glasses were sliding off of guests’ tables, including the crashing of hundreds of stacked plates and glasses (thank goodness they were plastic) waiting on the line.

To ensure our safety, the crew asked us to stay seated and avoid walking around the ship.

However, in true Royal Caribbean fashion, to make sure we didn’t go hungry, the crew brought us french fries and pizza straight to our tables. It was a thoughtful gesture that helped us enjoy our meal despite the chaotic conditions.

Despite the turbulent journey, I actually slept quite well that night. The gentle rocking of the ship was surprisingly soothing. When I woke up this morning, the storm had passed, and the seas were much calmer. However, due to the high winds, we experienced a 2-hour delay in arriving into Reykjavik, Iceland.

It was incredibly cold as we finally docked, but we are excited to explore this beautiful country!
May Hod bless you always!
