Barcelona Spain

Sagrada Família. Hopefully whenever it’s finished there will be photos without construction cranes.

Today we started our final segment of this 274 day world cruise. 60 days remain. Time is really flying by now. It seems like at times we just started but when we look back on places we’ve been like Antarctica to see the Penguins or Africa to mingle with the Lions and Elephants, it seems so long ago! We are loving this adventure but we are also tired. It will be nice to be home again for a few months.

The intricate details tell an amazing story of the life of Christ.
The inside was extraordinary! So much color and so much beauty

As for today, we are in Barcelona Spain. Such a beautiful spanish city. When we think of Spain, this is the city that comes to mind and it’s a major cruise hub. When traveling Europe, it’s usually where we fly into or out of when on a cruise.

This sculpture was front and center of the alter. Amazing
The sunny day just made these even more beautiful

Our main visit today and the main attraction of Barcelona is the Sagrada Familia. It is more than just a church; it’s a living, breathing masterpiece. It deserves the title of cathedral. Designed by Antoni Gaudí, this incredible building is still under construction after over 130 years! We have been here several times before over the years of traveling but have never been inside. Today we changed that! Every part of this magnificent structure is full of symbolism and detail.

The top stained glass windows represent the sunset on the west side of the building and the blue and greens represent mornings on the east

Stepping inside is like entering another world. The interior is vast and filled with natural light pouring through the enormous stained glass windows. Each window tells a story, with colors blending and changing as the day progresses. The forest-like columns create a sense of awe, reaching up towards the skylight. It’s a truly unforgettable experience.

The numbers add up to 33 in all directions. The age of Jesus when he was crucified.
Some other works by Gaudi. Now I see why my mom used that word alot! 😂

Barcelona is a city that’s always changing. Since they banned bullfighting in 2012, it’s great to see how they’ve turned old bullfighting rings into modern places to shop. And the fact that they don’t allow bullfighting or animals in cages shows how much they care.

So many sculptures around the city. Some monumental, some ornamental
Twin Venetian towers leading into the city

We loved wandering through the Old Town. It’s like stepping back in time with its narrow streets and old buildings. The Gothic Quarter is especially cool.

They also have an aerial tram moving people across the city
Memorial Square built over a cemetery where defenders of the city were buried during the series of Barcelona

Barcelona is a city of about 1.6 million people, but it feels even bigger! It’s a mix of people from all over Spain and the world. There are students, artists, and people from different cultures all living together. This mix makes the city feel really exciting and full of life.

Has a great day with great friends

Barcelona is a city with a lot to offer. It’s got history, culture, and a modern vibe. We can’t wait to go back!

Next up, Valencia Spain!

May God bless you always!
