Straits of Magellan

Despite the Capt warning us the previous evening that, based on weather forecasts there was only a 20% chance we’d be able to tender, we were hopeful at sunrise that we’d be able to get into port, it looked nice….

Due to another project, I totally missed much of the straits, which were started through a day earlier after missing our port in Punta Arenas Chile. To keep up with our travels, our friend Jane allowed me to post her view of the day so it will be our memories. Thank you Jane. ❤️

They say if you don’t like the weather in Patagonia, wait 5 mins! Such a changeable day, disappointed not to make our 3rd tender port we still enjoyed more scenic cruising off the Straits of Magellen, named after the Portuguese explorer who discovered this sheltered route to cross from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Excited to see Puntarenas in the distance…
As we entered the Agostini Sound another beautiful rainbow appeared, seems to always happen not long after we get disappointing news!
This glacier didn’t have a name on the nautical map so the Bridge named it the ‘Serenade Glacier’
The Anguilla Glacier
Our position deep into the fjord
These glaciers are so close, view out of our window.
Deep into the fjord were beautiful rugged mountains.
The colours in the rock were stunning

The end of the fjord and the Agostini Glacier
The end of the fjord and the Agostini Glacier. It was cold, wet & windy!
The landscape is just gorgeous.
Rugged peaks line the route, it was so lovely when the sun lit them up.
Back in the Strait of Magellan Strait we passed the metallic Cross of the Seas, put up to mark Pope John Pauls visit in 1987.

Thank you again Jane. So thankful for friends like you! Our next port in a few days is Valparaiso Chile where we will visit an Alpaca farm!

May God bless you always.
