Ushuaia, Argentina Day 2

Escondido lake and windy roads to get to it.

After a full day exploring Ushuaia, we got up early the next morning for some more exploring of this beautiful country.

Our trip today will take us to Lago Escondido or Hidden Lake. From different angles while viewing the lake, you cant see it even if it’s only a few yards in front of you.

The Carbajal Valley that was shaped by glacier movement. This is port of the Andes range.

Lago Escondido is located in Southern Patagonia. It is a village and lake in the Ushuaia department in Tierra del Fuego Province, Argentina. As of 2001 it has a population of 71.

The villages, which thrives mainly on logging and tourism, is located 57 km (35 mi) north of Ushuaia. There is a working sawmill and timber operation close to the lake.

This isn’t a home but very country

Our 1 1/2 hour drive to the lake was filled with even more beauty. Watching the snow capped mountains that are part of the Andes and then as we got closer, the greenery in the trees was so deep and green.

The little cabins. Most homes and even businesses here have these slanted roofs because of the snow

Forests and steep mountain ranges surround the lake and is said to change color depending on the sunlight. With no sun we had a calm, less colorful lake but still a beautiful part of nature.

Can you see the lake?

There were some flowers along the way. Lupine flowers reminded us of oversized Indian paintbrushes from Texas and we found some beautiful red Poppies.

Sawmill and lake in view

It is summertime here so more flowers are growing and snow melting but not much in the mountains. They say the snow is on mountain tops year round and the glaciers may have waterfalls dripping from them but it doesn’t look like they are losing any ice.

Chuck and Jane wandering

We stopped at one place for a bathroom break and some coffee but all they had was liquor and motorcycles! We all took the bathroom break but just wandered around the old motorcycles for something to do and stretch our legs. The cabins were nice though. Something my family would enjoy.

Lupines

We had a great 2 days at Ushuaia and now we move on to Punta Arenas, Chile.

It was so cold!

May God bless you always!
