Koper Slovenia

Look at those beautiful red tiled roofs!

We are always thankful and feel extremely blessed to again visit a beautiful country such as Koper Slovenia. Even if it’s a rainy day, we were able to have a wonderful time.

Beautiful architectural building in the square. Houses a gallery and small eatery

One of the first things we visited was the Koper Cathedral. This stunning cathedral is one of the most important landmarks in Koper. It was built in the 12th century, and I just love the Roman features. The interior of the cathedral is just as impressive, with its high ceilings, stained glass windows, and elaborate altars.

The inside of Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was extraordinary
The organ is just amazing! Wish we could have heard the sounds

After spending a great deal of time in the cathedral in awe, we viewed the Praetorian Palace from the outside.

Praetorian Palace

The palace was built in the 15th century by the Venetians, who ruled Koper at the time. It was originally used as the residence of the Venetian governor of Koper. The palace was later used as a courthouse and a prison. In the 19th century, the palace was renovated and converted into a city hall.

This guy had beautiful and pleasing music to the ears
The streets were so narrow
The clock tower standing tall next to the cathedral

Another interesting sight in Koper is the Clock Tower. This tower was built in the 15th century, and it is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city. Of course I only knew that after googling it! 🧐

Tito Square

Another beautiful place, Tito Square. This square is named after Josip Broz Tito, the former president of Yugoslavia. The square is home to the City Library of Koper, and it is also a popular spot for concerts and other events. The cathedral is there and some really cute eateries and cafes.

Loved this apartment area tucked into a cove. Very picturesque
Da Ponte fountain – a fountain in the square, served as the main connection point between the island Koper and the mainland. It is the last station of the aqueduct, which supplied the city with water.

While walking around the very narrow streets, we came across a yarn shop. Although when asking her about yarn she did t understand. It’s actually called wool over here. So I had to buy some authentic Slovenian wool! I’m so excited. I. My boughs a few skeins since I e managed to buy a little too much over this 30 day trip. I keep getting this look from Chuck. I just tell him don’t worry, I’ll get it home someway! 😁

I could have spent hours in this little shop. We learned so much from the sweet shop owner.

We had a wonderful time exploring Koper even on a rainy day. Koper is a small city with not a huge amount of areas to explore but I would definitely recommend visiting Koper if you are ever in Slovenia.

May God bless you always!
