Curacao is one of the 3 ABC islands. It is the largest of the three. Aruba is the smallest and Bonaire is in the middle. Curacao has 165,000 residents. It has nearly 40 beaches on the island. That’s quite a few for such a small island. The size of the island is just 38 miles wide and 7 miles wide at the widest point of the island. They consider it one of the best diving locations in the world probably because of the many underwater wrecks that can be explored.

We spent a little time walking around the island. It was so hot today but not complaining. We could be back in Virginia in the snowy cold weather! We admired the beautiful Juliana Bridge during our walk. It was under construction in 1967 when a portion of it collapsed, killing 15 workers. Final construction was completed and the bridge opened in 1974.

Another beauty was the colored row of houses. Why is Curacao so colorful? Well, locals believe the island became colorful in the early 1800’s when the Governor complained of migraines. It was believed that his migraines were caused by the bright reflections on the white buildings. This I can totally understand!

This was short trip. We took a tour on one of our last visits here and learned a little different history. We enjoyed it and we will see it again on our world cruise. We may do something different on that trip.

Back at the ship we are working on changing rooms. Our room is directly over one of the lounges. This lounge is not for easy listening. It’s the salsa dancing and party lounge! It would be ok if they didn’t have the music at 100 decibels and shouting until midnight and 1am. Since we are on the ship for another 2 weeks, we prefer to be moved to something a lot less noisy. The front desk has given us a second room to sleep in at night while not having to move our belongings. This is a little inconvenience but not as much as it would be if we moved now and then in 3 days when we start the next trip, move again. They are doing what they can and we appreciate it.
We will be out to sea the next two days. This is the time we play card games and chill out at the pool! Things we really love!
Our next trip is set to visit all the saints! St. Maarten, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. John and its Christmas! I’m interested to see how Royal will celebrate Christmas. When we were on the ship in Dubai, they had Santa Clause on the ship. I’m sure he’ll make a visit for the kids here too. We should see lots of Christmas decorations along the way.
May God bless you always!
