Colon, Panama

Caribbean side of Panama Canal in Colon Panama. This was the exit when we traveled through the canal in October from Los Angeles. Notice all the ships lined up in the distance to enter.

Such a beautiful day in Panama! We docked in Colon but are traveling by bus to Panama City.

You can find our post on the Panama Canal in two parts. Located here for part one and here for part two.

Colon has the world’s first transcontinental railroad. In its passenger train, it is possible to make the journey between the two oceans (From Panama City to Colon City) in one hour (one-way), through the forest of Soberania National Park and bordering the Gatun Lake and the Panama Canal.

Colón is a city in Central Panama. It’s the Caribbean end of the Panama Canal. According to google, the town is in poor condition and notorious for its high crime rate, but they say it is worth driving around to look at the culture, people and architecture. We passed through Colon on our trip to Panama City, about 2 hours drive, and we found they were right, its pretty run down in this area.

Loved the color of bamboo on these trees

We spent the day waking around all the amazing shops at The Multi Plaza Mall. The largest mall in Central America. From extremely high end shops like Tiffany’s and Gucci to more affordable shops such as Old Navy and McDonalds! We didn’t buy anything but ice cream but had a nice time exploring the shops! We definitely walked our 2 miles today!

Chuck was mystified by all the nice high rise condos and them all these utility poles with low lying lines. 🤔
Loved all the beautifully decorated trees
