Puerto Vallarta Mexico

We found our honeymoon hotel! Sheraton Bouganvillas

Ahhh. Puerta Vallarta! Years ago, before Cancun came along, this was the place to go. So much so that in October 1988 we changed our honeymoon from Cancun to Puerto Vallarta. But not because that was our choice. Hurricane Gilbert hit Cancun in September and caused too much damage, so we moved it to Puerto Vallarta. Our honeymoon hotel was the Sheraton. During our tour we drove right by it. We were so excited to see it and started talking about the good old days. We had some fun reminiscing.

The part of town we visited was the posh Marina Vallarta. In the 80’s, the condos were called apartments and were selling for about $30,000 and now are condos worth approximately $350,000. The tour guide drove us by a crocodile habitat while also telling us that millions of Monarch butterflies migrate once a year in November from Canada to Mexico. He said it was a spectacular site. The butterflies, not the crocodiles!

Night of the Iguana filmed here.

We stopped at the boardwalk and walked along the water and saw a little bit of film history. One of the areas was where Night of the Iguana was filmed. Another home we drove around was to Liz Taylors. It was bought by Ms. Taylor for $180,000 and sold after her death for more than $8 million. It was a beautiful warm day, and we enjoyed our personal trip through memory lane. We dodged another hurricane so that’s a plus!

Inside of the Cathedral was lined in gold leaf. Such beauty.

Tonight we have a magician onboard. Should be fun. Chuck loves the entertainment and it always there to support the talent on the ship. Tomorrow, we stop in Huatulco, but we have decided not to get off. Not much there to see other than the 7 famous beaches.

The hurricane took a sharp left! YIPPEE!

May God bless you and keep you safe!
