| No pictures available for this post but wanted to show off our new t-shirts! (and my reader glasses) |
We are in Los Angeles California today. This morning was absolutely crazy. We had to get up at 4:30 am to meet with our driver, John. He has been a great find since we moved to Dunedin. Very dependable in getting us to our flights on time. We left the house on time after about 4 hours sleep and John dropped us off at the airport at the Delta gate. As soon as we get inside the door, I realized my glasses were missing. I ran back outside and John was gone of course but I looked everywhere for my glasses on the drive and sidewalks. So, Chuck called him and he made another loop around and we searched the car and couldnt find them. I know I had them in the car so I have no idea what happened to them. We had this horribly long line at the Delta counter, that we heard was not normal. I am sure it was from all the cancellations from the hurricane. It pays to get to the hour 2 hours early for sure! After getting through security we stopped at a coffee shop and picked up some muffins for breakfast, since I wasted so much time looking for my glasses. I was getting hot so I took off my favorite jacket. Apparently I either dropped my jacket or laid it down in the shop because when I got to the seat, it wasn’t with me and I didn’t have time to run back and get it. Frustrating nonetheless. Good news is I brought a blanket from my American Airlines trips. It worked just right until I was served hot tea and promptly dropped it in my lap. So, hoping the day gets better. We landed safely and picked up our luggage and started reviewing the Uber app for a ride. Our first offeres were $60-$80 for the ride. Holy Cow! I checked Lyft and couldnt find anythign better so I started looking at shared buses. Surely theres something cheaper, but couldnt find anything so I popped back into the Uber app and started scrolling. I found a ride for $30. Hmm.. where did that come from? I chose it and started to give our locatin and it provided directions to the LAXit. This is the coolest and smartest service that LAX offers. You catch a free bus to this parking area designed for all kinds of shared rides, such as Uber, Lyft and Taxis. And, the cost was only $35. What a huge difference. It sure pays to keep looking. Such a nice driver too. We arrived at our hotel in San Pedro around 10:30 am. Now we have to kill time, somewhere, until 3 pm checkin. The hotel isn’t the greatest when you look at the outside but its clean and our room was pretty decent. The hotels were slim pickins by the time I was able to book a room so I looked at all the reviews on many hotels and this one was the most promising. I chose a room with a private bath, luckily it was on the first floor. The upstairs has shared bathrooms and no elevator. Thankful for the first floor. They were kind enough to lock up our luggage until check in time. We walked a couple of miles to Subway and had lunch then walked to Rite Aide to find a better pair of reading glasses so I can get by until the end of the month. I made an appointment with Lenscrafters for the 15th, when we return. I’ll get the exam and glasses picked out and hopefully they’ll be back when we return from our Europe transatlantic cruise at the end of the month. Our next stop was the Mexican grocery store to pick up some soda and muffins for breakfast. We are now in our room watching Roku after a short nap. We’ll hang out tonight, take a much needed shower and relax before we leave for the ship tomorrow. Its a cute little town but I feel like we stepped across the mexican border. We talked to a few couples here and they said it was safe and they felt comfortable for the one night. They were cruisers too. So tomorrow we will hop on the Serenade of the Seas, the same ship we will embark for our world cruise in December, 2023. This cruise will take us through the Panama Canal. We have been trying to make this trip since 2019. After 3 cancellations, we are finally taking the ride! We are also going to try and see our cabin that will be on the big cruise and take some pictures. Hopefully the people will let us take a look.
May God bless you and keep you safe!
