Aftermath of Hurricane Ian

We were so lucky.

Chuck cleaning up the small limbs and debris

We woke up today and our power was back on around 9:30 am. It has been out for nearly 20 hours. Just enough for all the ice cream to melt but not long enough for it to drip outside my freezer! That would have been a nightmare. When we went to bed last night around 1 am, the wind was really whipping and howling but we felt comfortable that it would be ok since the hurricane moved more south of us. It wasn’t too hot during the night, thank goodness. We slept under a sheet only and it was fine.

Not what we envisioned but very thankful!

We have our morning coffee on the lanai and we sure were thankful the electricity was back on. Debris from trees were all over the yard with some small to midsize limbs  all over our yard and the neighborhood. Many people were back out walking the dogs and cleaning up the mess left by hurricane Ian. We were so very fortunate and blessed that this storm didn’t hit us directly. We had some damage in the area but very minimal. Our friends live in Cape Coral Florida which is adjacent to Fort Myers. Our only communication from them was they were safe and it looked like a warzone. We are so thankful they were safe although I believe the house may be a different story.

Others in Ft. Myers area didn’t fair so well.

Chuck cleaned up the yard some so it wouldn’t look so horrible and our neighbors would end up picking up for us. It was really nice and cool outside. The storm really brought some cool air. I’m sure it wont last long. We put the plants back outside and moved the trash cans back out of the garage. Hopefully we won’t have to deal with this again for another 50 years. Apparently, the last time a hurricane hit Tampa directly was October 25, 1921. I don’t believe they had names back then but it was pretty devastating so we feel very blessed to have had such minimal damage if any.

She wasn’t exactly worried!

So a sigh of relief for us and back to our normal lives we go. Clothes need to be washed and clothes need to be packed to get ready for our Panama Canal cruise.

May God bless you and keep you safe!
