Home Again

We have been home for a few days now. The trip home from Amsterdam, Netherlands wasn’t too bad but the never ending airline delays were horrendous! It took us an hour and half just to get through the security lines at Amsterdam airport. It was ridiculous!  We arrived 3 hours early and we needed every bit of it. The baggage checkin was awesome! They need that everywhere. You walk up to a carrousel, put you bag in and lay it down flat. Put in your flight info and it weighs it and spits out a tag. You put the tag on and press go. The lid closes and it ships the bag to wherever it needs to go. The most efficient I have ever seen and just so simple! We used

Lines were ridiculously long

Verifly, an app that holds your airline ticket, covid test and attestation forms all in one place. We were never asked to show our negative covid tests. I’m assuming because all of this was in the app and somewhere on their checkin procedures it showed we were fit to fly. Our travel started at 8:30 am on June 2nd and we arrived home at midnight. With timezone changes we were up almost 24 hours. Neither of us could sleep on the plane. I think we snuck in about an hour on the last leg. Chuck woke up around 11 am the next day. I stayed in bed until 2 pm. It was an exhausting day but good to be back home in my own bed! During our delays in Dallas, there were two flights that canceled last minute around us. Thankfully it wasn’t ours. Our flight was waiting on crew. It was delayed a few hours waiting for them to arrive. Flying us just not fun anymore.

The day after we arrived home, we drove to the local post office to pick up our mail. No one has seen it. Said it must be out for delivery. We drove back home and looked in our box. No mail but we did receive a “vacant” notice.  This is used a lot with the snowbirds when they have their mail forwarded, 4-6 months out of a year. This required another trip to the post office. The manager said, yes I remember. It was put in the wrong bin. It is out for delivery.

That was two days ago. Still not mail. Chuck goes back to local post office and now finds out that the mail was forwarded and is in another city/state waiting for them to “notice” that there is no forwarding address attached so they can send the mail back to us. Isn’t that the craziest thing? Totally unbelievable. Our tax dollars at work! Covid didn’t have too much of an affect on us. I had a few bouts of coughing, that some nasty cough syrup helped on but otherwise we feel great!

Our next trip is scheduled for July 9 out of Orlando. We’ll be on a different ship again. Still Royal Caribbean.  This cruise will take us to the ABC islands. Aruba/Bonaire and Curacao. We haven’t been to Bonaire yet so that will be nice! So we have about a month to take a break and get the house in order again and have some family visits. Maybe ride our bikes and do some walking around Dunedin. Explore our little piece of paradise!

Signs such as this were everywhere. It was so nice not to take out our electronics, take our shoes off and leave our liquids in the bag. I cant imagine the delays if we had to do that as well!

I’ll post as more trips come available or something exciting happens.

We were so disappointed in missing the Iceland cruise but at least we’ll get to see it on our world cruise.

May God bless you and keep you safe!
