Is it Day 6 or Day 9 of Quarantine?

These are called Broken Tulips

Regardless of the positive test from yesterday, we went out to see Amsterdam. I think it’s been enough time and most of our time was spent outside. When we went inside we wore a mask to protect others just in case. We purchased a day pass on the train for $15 each. Not a bad deal for a day.

Our first stop was the Tulip Museum. I really wanted to see the tulips in season but we missed it by a week. They closed the fields for harvesting 5 days before we arrived. So, we improvised and stopped at the Museum to see the history and look at some flowers they had sitting around in vases. Talking about beautiful.

Some amarillas mixed in with the tulips

They also had many bulbs you could buy. One part of history we learned is we didn’t realize the tulips that had the shredded petals were actually started from diseased flowers. Who knew? I picked up a hand painted, glass ornament of tulips for my collection. So pretty. After leaving the museum we wandered through the very crowded streets and walked by the Anne Frank House.

We didn’t go inside but took pictures of her statue and her front door. It has intrigued me to read some of her diaries that are spoken about. After getting lost several times and almost being run over by bicycles, we decided to stop for a break and grab a drink. Nothing has ice here but at least its cold.

Ann Franke Monument – I accidentally cut off her head, Sorry!😞

We found out that there are over 800,000 bicycles in Amsterdam. If you were here, you would believe it! A few other statistics about bicycles – There are 4 times more bikes than cars and 60% of the population uses the bikes on a daily basis.

These colored, flowered and decorated bikes are around the bridges.

There are bicycle parks – like car parks. The bike lanes are just as much monitored by signals as vehicle lanes but the difference is the bikes will run over you if you are walking past them. THEY WILL NOT STOP! Its crazy! While walking around we found these bikes on the bridges that had flowers decorating them. They are parked/tied to the bridges. Such a cute way to showcase the bikes and the flowers of Amsterdam.

We’ll go out to eat tonight. The food at the hotel isn’t bad, its just limited. It’s supposed to rain again but the temperatures are supposed to be higher. I’ll take warm rain over freezing rain any day! It was nice to get out. We’ll take another test on June 1st. Wish us luck!

May God bless you and keep you safe.
