Our First Year of Travel Anniversary

Benalmadena, Spain

Since we missed our complete one year around the world travel by one country (Panama in South America), I decided to post our destinations for our 10 months of world travel instead. Then, when we get moving again, we’ll continue.

Omaha Beach, France

I’m also posting one photo of each location as a walk down memory lane. Beginning in April, our travels started on a cruise out of Galveston. We traveled 44,833 miles and visited 20 countries.

Battle of the Flowers Parade, Jersey, Channel Islands

I also took over 6,900 photos which is really crazy if you think about it. Unfortunately we didn’t make our trip to Panama but we will add it back on the agenda when we work around to that area again.

Buckingham Palace, United Kingdom

What an amazing journey these first 10 months have been. We have been to places we never dreamed of. Met so many interesting people and made many friends.

Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain surfers

We have learned that we can live without so much especially if wont fit in the 3 suitcases, 2 backpacks, a computer and camera bag. We have ordered different, and a little larger and more functional backpacks so the two computer and camera bags will go away.

Essaouira, Morocco

We still love cruising as our number one enjoyment but there are pluses and minuses to just cruising vs. staying in a specific location for a few weeks to a month. Cruising allows for 100% relaxation.

Faces of Morocco, Marrakech, Morocco

Everything is done for you, catered to you and the many ports you can visit are endless but can be costly. Financially, this isn’t the most economical way to see the world but in some cases, depending on the country, it might be a little less than a hotel.

Sicily, Italy

A great example is Dubai. This place is really expensive and because of that, we chose to stay on a cruise for two additional weeks as opposed to staying in a $300 a night hotel. And thats the low end for that time of year.

Rock of Gibraltar, Spain but controlled by England

However, if we hadn’t of chosen cruising in this area, we would not have seen Qatar or Sir Bani Yas because we would not have chosen those as places to visit on our own. We enjoyed seeing Qatar and was glad we took the cruise.

Santorini, Greece

Our main option is to stay in a HomeAway or Airbnb. Depending on where it is, we usually stick with HomeAway. These homes, condos and apartments have all been pretty decent.

Suez Canal

All have the basic essentials such as all kitchen cookware, comfortable living room furniture and a decent bed. None have been dirty or unacceptable. Some places have starter packs such as coffee, milk, toiletries and an extra set of sheets.

Petra, Jordan

Our worst had only one roll of toilet paper and one small packet of dishwashing soap. We had to buy the rest. Most if not all do not have a dishwasher or disposal. Most if not all did not have a clothes dryer.

Muscat, Oman

Coming back to the U.S.A. we are getting spoiled with this full size washer and dryer! The best part of the longer stays is we can explore the country and live close to the locals and learn about their culture and explore at our leisure.

Abu Dhabi Mosque UAE

Communicating was tough but we did it and are proud of ourselves. Its a wonderful experience. Buying and cooking food thats only available in those countries is a different experience as well. Our favorite food was Balinese.

Burj Khalifa, Dubai UAE

I think by far our most favorite for extended stay was Jersey, Channel Islands. We really loved the atmosphere and people of this island and look forward to returning some day. For cruising, New Zealand was a tight second.

Sir Bani Yas, UAE

We plan to go back and have an extended stay here after seeing it by cruise. I can’t really say there was any place we didn’t like but there were some we said, “yeah, that was ok.” At least we can say we’ve been there.

Arabian horses, Doha, Qatar

I believe this would be the United Arab Emirates. Dubai to be more specific. It was beautiful and interesting but not all that exciting to us. I think because we really looked forward to the New Years Eve celebration and built up our expectation so high that it was really a let down.

Monkeys in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Of course some of that may be because we were sick and couldn’t get out and see the area as much as we wanted. We liked some parts of Bali but others were fine if you didn’t want to go anywhere.

Opera House, Sydney Australia

I didnt like the ants and mosquitos at all. We want to go back to Bali and see other beautiful parts we have only heard about. We aren’t sure where our next year will take us with all the COVID-19 virus problems.

Milford Sound, New Zealand

Our original plans are to visit Japan, Singapore, Vietnam and China for 2 months but not sure at this point what we will be doing. Wherever our journey takes us we are sure to explore and make more memories as we have this past 10 months.

Akaroa, New Zealand

On April 17th, our anniversary date for travel, we will still celebrate even though we are sort of stuck here. Not complaining because we are safe and well. We love this lifestyle and unless there are unforeseen circumstances, we plan to continue.

Hobart, Tasmania

May God bless you all.
