We arrived in Brisbane about an hour late but they extended our day by an hour so we didn’t lose any time. We decided to just walk around town since we didn’t buy an excursion. The weather was so unpredictable that we decided against it. Our excursion of choice was the Koala Sanctuary and with the rain off and on, I’m sure they were bedded down or at least under some covering.

The ride from the ship to downtown was 45 minutes. We had a few hours before needing to head back so we decided to pop into the mall and take advantage of the free wifi. I updated the blog for the last post and we downloaded a few books and some movies just in case. We also needed to get to the drug store, called chemist here.

We purchased some cold and flu medication, just in case we need it. More vitamin C, sunblock since we had used most of ours in Bali that we packed for the trip and Chuck is trying something new for his knee. He bought some collagen for joints. I sure hope it helps. He has a very hard time climbing up and down stairs now. He used to fuss about people taking the elevator for just one floor and now he is one of those people.

South West Pacific Campaign 1942-1945. This memorial depicts a wounded Australian soldier descending the Kokoda Trail assisted by a strong, dependable Papua New Guinean leading him to safety. They are being passed by a fresh, determined soldier resolute in the task ahead.
While we were out, we walked through Anzac Square. Australia celebrates Anzac day. We had the privilege of being part of one on our last cruise in Australia. It is similar to the USA Memorial day. Anzac Day is commemorated on April 25th and is arguably Australia’s most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first key military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

In memory of the Queensland Heroes who fell in the south African War 1899-1902
There were many memorials in the square that explained each. It was a very nice tribute to their honor.
We saw a few places on our bus ride through, such as a nice ferris-wheel similar to the one in London and where they were building a Casino that will cross over the highway.

World War II Memorial – This memorial depicts a wounded Australian soldier being assisted by a nursing sister. It is a scene typical of all theatres of war and exemplifies the involvement of all Australian servicemen and women in World War II.
Lots of construction going on with many cranes scattered everywhere. It was a nice day.
A little rain on our way back and the tide rose pretty high by the time we embarked back on the ship. We had to duck pretty low to get in.
|
Korea.Malaya.Borneo – 1948-1966 – This memorial depicts an Australian soldier from the Malaya and Borneo campaigns standing alongside an Australian soldier from the Korea campaign with an arm outstretched welcoming piece and friendship.
We heard an announcement after we got to our room that the gangway was moved so they must have a lower floor to help with the tide situation.

The names of those that fought in World War I is set in a wrought iron type of fence around the entire square.
I almost forgot to post the budget for Bali. We came in $893 USD under our budget. This was mostly because we paid for our airfare with points from our credit card. Our airfare was $600 USD so we still would have been about $293 USD ahead.
Our housing/hotel costs were a little more because we decided to change locations and that added 3 days that we had already paid for at our current villa. But, it’s all good. We are very happy with the results.
Out to sea for a couple of days and then we’ll be in Yorkey’s Knob. Thats an interesting name for a town. If we choose, we can ride a bus over to Cairns downtown center. We’ll see what that day brings. I heard it will be hot!
May God bless you always!
