Bali Indonesia

Reflection from the Infinity pool

We haven’t been disappointed in Bali so far. There are a few things we are having to learn to live with such as an invasion of ants and bugs. Mosquito’s aren’t too bad as long as we close the doors and windows just before dark when they start swarming.

It was raining so I was in the cabana.

What is so interesting about the mosquito’s is they swarm for about an hour and then they are done! We close all the doors and windows before they have a chance to get inside. The humidity here can be stifling. Its great when a storm comes through and cools it down.

The front of the villa is beautifully decorated

We are spending more time in the pool now that our fever and cough are subsided so that helps to tolerate the heat. This is truly paradise and we love sitting in the living room as the sun sets and God begins painting the most beautiful sky.

Living area – notice how the doors and windows stay open

Depending on how strong the storm is, the colors can be magnificent. We are in a 3 bedroom villa. The bedrooms are upstairs. We typically go up at night and that’s the only time we see the upstairs. There is a sitting area and a dining table upstairs but not much airflow so we choose to stay on the first level.

Dining area from the outdoors.

There are 3 bathrooms with showers upstairs and a 1/2 bath downstairs. The first level has an open area that has a dining table for 8 and a sofa with TV. We rarely go into the kitchen. We have two young ladies that take care of all our cooking and cleaning. They are young and speak decent English.

The folding glass doors close in the evenings.

Sometimes there is a small language barrier but we can typically get our point across.  Each evening, we choose from a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner and provide the girls the money to buy the supplies. The next morning, they get on their motorbikes and head to the store. They cook the breakfast and have it on the table by 9 am and dinner at 6 pm.

This is the upstairs area with a sitting area and table and chairs.

We don’t eat lunch but keep fruit and banana bread on hand if we want something to snack on. The food is amazing. There have been a couple of items we didn’t particularly enjoy but for the most part, they are really good cooks. We spend about $10-$15 per day on all meals.

The 3 bedrooms upstairs.

After our meals, the girls clean up and we either go to the pool or read in the evenings. I think I could get used to this. Couldn’t you? We took a walk on the beach today for the first time. The beach is nice when it is cleaned up. The team here tries to keep it clean but when the surf is high, it pulls in lots of trash from a river close by.

Our bedroom

If you’ve seen the pictures on TV showing how all the plastic washes up on the beach, this could be one of those commercials. The owner supports the villagers and only hires locals to work in the villas. He owns three. They make sure they get educated in English and hospitality.

Huge shower and vanity

This makes sure the local people don’t have to move to the cities. They also added a water tap for the local villagers. This way the locals can safely drink water and they make sure the locals have containers to collect trash so they can participate in keeping their beaches and surrounding areas free from trash. There’s not much out here where we are.

We are in a very remote location, for example, the hospital was 30 minutes away. So, walking around as we usually do will be mainly for exercise. Not much to see until we go to one of the local villages. We’ll need to plan and hire a driver to take us. We are planning a trip to Ubud, Indonesia.

Its a happening place with monkeys, elephants, shopping and dining. Its closer to the airport so we may spend the last few days there and not drive all the way back here. 4 hours is a long drive and not sure I want to do that round trip. Its a beautiful place. We’ll see what tomorrow holds!

May God bless you always!
