After an exciting day in Sicily, Italy we are now in Athens, Greece. Athens is ancient and historical with ruins, museums and taverns. We didn’t purchase an excursion today, deciding to take the hop on/hop off bus for a tour. We were only interested in seeing the Acropolis area. The first area we reached was the Odeon of Herodes Atticus Theater.

This ancient theater where Frank Sinatra performed centuries later was built by a Greek aristocrat in 161 AD to honor his dead wife. Legend has it, however, that the upstanding citizen also arranged her death. 😮
While taking photos around the theater, we took out Flat Isaac. I haven’t yet explained who Flat Isaac is since we started. To take a side trip here, Isaac Wright in Richmond, Virginia has a financial advisement company and we utilize their services for our retirement planning. Before we left for our journey, Ricky, our personal advisor

that works for Isaac handed us this 2 sided comical picture of Isaac similar to a flat Stanley, asking us to take him with us and take pictures during our travels. I don’t think Ricky thought we would take him serious but Flat Isaac has been to many places!
So, back to the theater. I whipped out flat Isaac to take a picture of him with the Theater and a guard came over and said NO! NO PICTURES! We could take a selfie or pictures of other people all we wanted but we couldn’t take a picture with flat Isaac? We think he thought it was a picture of a public official. Surely he wasn’t mistaken for Trump? Who knows. I told Chuck lets go and I’ll take it somewhere else, the guard said, do you want me to follow you? I’m like, are you serious? So, we moved on to the Parthenon.

The ancient Greeks used precious metals to honor the gods. This is particularly apparent in the Acropolis, where the huge statue of Athena is crafted entirely from ivory and pure gold. We didn’t see that statue and I also looked through all my pictures to see if I missed it. I’ll research once I get a more reliable internet connection to see where it’s located. I’m sure its not where we were touring.

There were so many people touring this place, it was difficult to walk. I can’t imagine what it looks like during peak season. The rest of Athens was a very nice town with so many small houses packed in a huge area. The weather was perfect. Although we would love to wear shorts everyday, as long as we aren’t shivering, it’s a good day!

Back on the ship, we have been eating dinner in the more formal dining rooms so that we can eat as healthy as we can. We both weighed the first morning after we boarded the ship and we have both lost 8-10 pounds since our travels started. We are so excited. This is by walking at least 2 miles a day and we fast one meal a day. We eat breakfast around 10 -11 am, depending on how early we get up. On the cruise we have to get up earlier so its sooner.

We don’t have a full lunch. We eat cheese and crackers or something very light in that respect and at dinner we try to keep our portion sizes average and not over eat. My downfall is sweets but there are sugar free or no added sugar options so I will eat a small amount. If popcorn and chips were readily available, Chuck would be digging in. He does well in trying to keep it at a minimum.

He is really doing well with his weight. I just hope this knee issue doesn’t set him back. The difference in the dining rooms is you order off the menu in one or you have a HUGE buffet in the other. Its more difficult to stay in control with all that food! We have to get a good nights sleep and early to rise for Santorini. I am really looking forward to this trip. Its supposed to be the best for photographs. We have to get up at 6 am so we can get coffee, breakfast and meet our tour. Hope we can stay awake!
