Another blustery day, all things blue

Nicely done graffiti on the Banks’ walls. Notice the “blue” boats. The photo is what a typical older Moroccan man looks like with the long beard and turban. I couldn’t find anywhere if this was someone in particular.

When reading about the Moroccan flag, it states that “it is made of a red field with a black-bordered green pentagram. Red has considerable historic significance in Morocco, proclaiming the descent from royal Alaouite dynasty.”

So I find it ironic that with so much historical significance put on red, then why is everything here painted in a specific color of blue?

Woman in blue Berber style clothing

The street lights glow blue in the night and most everything is painted blue or the cloth is blue. It could be this tradition comes from the European historical background to the country. We have determined that they must bring it in barrels because there is a LOT of it!

Blue carts and cars

Maybe that’s what enables the red flag to stand out that much more.

The trade winds are really showing their force now.

Blue horse carts

Today NE winds at 24mph with gusts up to 40mph. The howling and whistling of the wind can be heard in the hallway and anything we put on the balcony has to be nailed down or pinned.

Blue motorcycles with attached carts and blue taxis

We are three stories up and it really makes a difference. There are some Moroccan plates hanging on the wall and they must be put on pretty well but they still rattle and shake. We are just waiting for one to fall and shatter to pieces.

Blue light posts that have blue and white lights

We will still go for our daily walks but, the sand bites at your face. We take comfort in the warm sun allowing us to walk outside without a sweater on. The temperature is still hovering around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. We have seen pretty much all we want to see in Essaouira.

Blue planters

We are now just enjoying our time together and will use the remaining time to finalize some of our planning of the next phase beginning May 2020. I have the rough draft of our itinerary posted and not much has changed, I just need to start booking places and working on the budget.

Blue gates to schools

We have found the most costly of our travels will be the airfare and the luggage. Typically we can work out the airfare to include 1 piece of checked or hold luggage each but we have 3 so we are having to pay a ridiculous amount for the 3rd piece.

Blue vendor carts full of candy and soft drinks

On one airline, the extra bag would have been $500 USD. We could replace the clothes and luggage at our destination at that price or lower!

Blue gate to older school age children

Good thing we got rid of the 4th piece while in London! Oh well, just have to  work it in the budget and cut back on something else. Not sure what that will be! There is a festival this weekend (we think). Hopefully we’ll find some interesting photos to post!

May God bless you always!
