Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife

Surfers ignoring the waves!

We have seen all sides of the island now. We went to the East side to Puerto de la Cruz yesterday. This town was so amazing.

I believe it was the most fun out of all areas we have seen here in the Canary Islands. Lots of hills to climb.

Actually, our heart monitors showed we climbed 9 floors. That’s just crazy! I’m sure we’ll sleep good tonight.

Puerto de la Cruz is even more of a tourist town than Los Cristiano’s. We see a few differences but the main difference is there is not much of a beach in this town.

This town had an area set up for people to do some of their own gardens. I told Chuck those look like small “graves” at the bottom of the picture.

But, there are surfers galore! The waves on this side of the island are crazy wild. We loved sitting and just watching the water and the surfers.

Many of the back streets are made from cobblestone.

After a while we walked around the city looking at the colorful houses set in the mountainside and all the beautiful flowers and gardens around the city.

We stopped and had some wonderful gelato along the boardwalk. I do so well NOT eating sweets frequently unless Chuck twists my arm. Unfortunately he doesn’t need to twist hard.

This glassed in figurine was in the wall beside the ocean. The Church was just above the wall.

We have found the gelato in Europe is very hard to resist. It’s probably been the most amazing gelato I’ve ever tasted. So, we savored our gelato in cinnamon flavored cones and decided to get home before dark.

Ermita de San Telmo is a small Church in this beach town.

Before we made it to our holiday home, we stopped to fill up the car with gas for the first time since we’ve been here.

A boardwalk of food, merchandise and a swimming pool.

The total cost for 9 gallons was €38 Euros/$42 USD. That’s $4.50 USD per gallon! WOW! Sure makes it hard to complain about the gas prices in the US.

The teal color against the dark blue in the water is just amazing!

We couldn’t figure out why the surfers weren’t going out for those big waves. We found a sign that stated where they should hang out if they were “learning”. This side of that wave is that place.

A week from Sunday we will be leaving so we need to get as much sun and beach as we can. I’m not sure Morocco will be as nice and warm and beautiful!

Sand Art. Very cute!

May God bless you always.
