Tenerife Opera House, Castle of St. John the Baptist, London Budget

Went for a short walk today but we first drove to an area that had better walking paths. The area included a small museum and the opera house. Along the walk we first came upon a park for swimming. It was very nice.

Parque Maritimo

To rent an umbrella, two lounge chairs and admission it would be around €8 Euros per day for both of us. Thats not a bad deal at all! We will also go to the beach and hang out on some days.

Castle of St. John the Baptist

We stopped at a museum called Castle of St. John the Baptist, built in 1643. It served as a military fort until 1924 and later converted to a military museum in 1948.

Each year in July a re-enactment of the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife takes place on July 25th, which commemorates the unsuccessful attempt by the British Admiral Horatio Nelson to invade the city and the archipelago.

Many murals are painted in different places around the island

Right next to the castle is the Opera House. Before we arrived close enough to know what is was, we joked that it looked like the Canary Island version of the Sydney Opera House, not knowing it was actually an opera house itself.

Auditorio de Tenerife

The Auditorio de Tenerife is the name of the auditorium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

The auditorium was inaugurated in 2003 in the presence of Felipe de Borbón, Prince of Asturias, and was later visited by former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

A replica located inside the Opera House that shows where the orchestra was located.

The building is framed within the tenets of late-modern architecture of the late 20th century.

The auditorium has become an architectural symbol of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island of Tenerife and the Canary Islands.

It is also regarded as the finest contemporary building in the Canary Islands and one of the most emblematic buildings of Spanish architecture.

In 2008, it was included by the post office in a set of six stamps. In 2011, the image of the Tenerife Auditorium was included in a series of commemorative coins of 5 euros, which displayed the most emblematic symbols of several Spanish cities.

An architectural statue just outside the Opera House

It is one of the major attractions of Tenerife and home to the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife (Tenerife Symphony Orchestra).

Its beautifully done, could probably use a bath, but I’m sure with the Atlantic Sea right next to it, thats a difficult task.

A walking path with flowers (mostly flowering cactus).

We found our way to the “Super Dino” market to buy a few more grocery items we were missing from the first trip and then made it back home.

Not sure who the artist is but here are more chalk type paintings of musicians

Someone still isn’t feeling well so we didnt do much today. However, I did finish the budget comparison and our trip to London was a little more expensive.

We expected that. It wasnt as bad as it could have been with us having to make a trip back to the US for Chucks dad’s funeral.

These cacti looked almost “hairy”

Our travel insurance covered our airfare so that worked out well. We received the check this week so that was deducted from the trip. We exceeded our budget by $745 USD. As you can see we don’t budget for medical or entertainment.

I believe these are flowers. Chuck said its the teats to get the cactus milk. (ha ha)

We exceeded our overall budget by $745 and the entertainment & medical was $837.  The areas in red are where we exceeded. Considering we bought an iPad (replaced Chucks) and spent more eating out while in Virginia as well as spent a little more on exploring London, we are satisfied with the results. It’s only about $18 more per day for 40 days.

It’s all good! May God bless you always!
