Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

These colorful little boats in the beach area are so cute!

After a long day of waiting in line at the check-in counter for luggage tags and finally getting in the air, we landed safely and cruised through customs. It really wasn’t a bad day.

The “flat tire”. It looked worse before Chuck pulled the wheel back down.

We picked up our luggage and noticed one piece “had a flat tire” of sorts. After turning it over we found the suitcase was busted by the wheel. It had been dropped.

Living area – second floor – lots of mood lighting

With the suitcase being 50 pounds, I’m not surprised, although there was a huge sticker on it that stated heavy luggage. Guess they decided to drop it on the conveyor belt instead of lifting it.

Atrium full of plants. Opens to the outdoors for much needed airflow

We have travel insurance that would probably cover it but Chuck wanted to talk to the airlines first. We were flying Air Europa. We have flown with them before and haven’t had any issues.

Master bath – 2nd floor

They actually have a form to fill out for damaged luggage. They were very nice about it and by email, we corresponded and picked one of two options they sent us. Our luggage is Delsey. It is hard-sided and has TSA locks.

Very unimpressive master bedroom in comparison to rest of house. There are two bedrooms.

They sent us the option for Samsonite, very similar and same size, looks almost identical. I am totally impressed! We should receive it early next week.

Large walk-in closet 2nd floor

That was so much easier than filling out a claim form for the travel insurance.

After obtaining our car and getting on our way, we are now settled in to our holiday home in Tenerife.

It was so amazing to step off the plane and see such a beautiful island and feel the nice warm air on our skin. We rented a car for a month for $125 USD.

Kitchen area – 1st floor – stairs to 2nd floor. Bathroom and another bedroom located on this floor

We were shocked at the price. We would normally pay that for only a week in any other places. The taxi fare to and from the airport would have been that much, so this was a no-brainer.

Stairs to 3rd floor – roof

We had to get the car! The best news is they drive on the right side of the road here and the steering wheel is on the left side of the car.  I asked Chuck if he remembered how to drive this way!

3rd floor/Roof access with cabana and lounge chairs. Washer and another bathroom located on this floor

We will only be here for 27 days due to the Schengen zone, 90 day policy. We wanted to keep a couple of days in reserve because we need to spend the night in Rome before leaving on our cruise to Dubai through the Suez Canal on November 30.

Area just across the street from the apartment. There are a large number of ships in this area.

We didn’t realize how handy the car would be until last night while I was trying to get the blog updated. Since I was so far behind from traveling, I really wanted to get it done. Well, my battery was low and I plugged it in for awhile only to notice after an hour that my laptop would not charge.

Many large rocks nicely painted along the walkway of artists. This one is Picasso

I tried two different converters and didn’t work. It was about 5 pm and I was in a panic. Stores for mac computers are hard to find and we are also on an island.

Claude Monet

Chuck found one in Los Cristianos, which is an hour drive and the opposite end of the island. Didn’t matter. We jumped in the car and took off.

Monet

We finally found it but parking was a different story. This part of Tenerife is the extreme tourist location. It was 10-15 degrees warmer and much more crowded with tourists. Where we are staying is farther north, a little cooler and more local friendly than tourists.

A rainbow colored bridge walkway. Beach just on the other side.

We found parking and found the dealer. He was very smart, spoke English very well (It’s mostly Spanish here) and knew his stuff! He tested my laptop and found the fuse in the charging cable went bad. I may be wrong but I really think these conversions from 220 down to 110 are killing all our items that need electricity.

Playa de las Teresitas – several people have mentioned that this is the best beach on the island.

Our iPhone’s, iPad’s and Kindle readers appear to do fine because we charge them by USB but all our electrical items are getting blown even though we are using a converter (not just an adapter). The laptops should not have had a problem.

The volcanic mountains and the clouds against the blue sky are amazing!

Fingers crossed that Chucks power supply doesn’t go out next! I ended up having to buy a new European power adapter for $99. That was after his 20% discount. The good news is I can use this adapter everywhere we go now except the United States. The Apple technician was very smart and we enjoyed talking to him. He wanted my laptop to charge for a little bit to make sure that was the problem.

One of the streets next to us. Its nice to see a clean area again. Many local restaurants along this path

He definitely has good technical skills. It was late leaving and we decided to stop to eat at The Hard Rock Cafe. It was nice to have a real American Hamburger. Our server was horrible but we had our order taken and food delivered in a reasonable amount of time.

We just had a hard time getting our check and leaving. I told Chuck I am sure they would find the check if we stood up to walk out!

Earlier in the day, we took a walk on the beach to see what we would be enjoying the next 4 weeks and boy is it amazing!

Can’t wait to take more photos and share. Chuck hasn’t been feeling well so we will get out soon. I think the change in climate aggravates his immune system. Tomorrow I’ll post our actual vs. budget for the London trip. That should be interesting!

May God bless you always!
