Leaving Jersey, Off to London!

La Rocque Beach – high tide

I’m a little behind in writing my posts, its been a rough 48 hours but bear with me and you’ll see why at the end of this one. I’ll catch up in the next couple of days. It’s raining today and expecting the same tomorrow so it’ll give us time to rest, unpack and catch up.

As hard a leaving was, we have more adventures ahead of us to come. We fell in love with the island of Jersey and hope to come back again someday. We spent our last day finalizing our packing and taking a few walks to see the Channel islands water view just one more time.

Lots of seaweed

It was very windy and cool but we wanted to see the water at it’s fullest as apposed to the infamous miles of red and black rocks and boats sitting, waiting for the water to return.

La Rocque beach – heading south

We walked to a spot that was not as frequented by tourists as some of the other beaches. It was mesmerizing to watch the waves as they splashed against the rocks while we sat and reflected on the last 40 days of our stay in Jersey. We definitely have some lasting memories here.

I failed to post photos of our home away from home the last 30 days We loved the sitting area!

Don & Sharon, our hosts have a lovely home and we were so pleased they trusted us to stay in their home for 30 days.

The colors and decor were nicely done and so cozy

At some point earlier in my writing, I mentioned they were retired, well not exactly. They decided life is too short and quit working to enjoy life just a we are.

Wooden swing to rock in

To enjoy it to the fullest! We wish them all the best! We will miss them and their grand dog, Sox and cat, Missy. We plan to try and visit again sometime in the future.

Garden area – beautiful flowers everywhere

Our trip to the airport started out with a misunderstanding with the “taxi” driver. Don & Sharon knew Kenny and although we all thought 8-8:15 was the pick up time, we were a little worried as 8:20 rolled in.

Don & Sharon – a lovely couple we will miss!

With many cars being so small around the island (and rightfully so) Sharon had us pack all our luggage in their small car. Luckily it fit and Don was nice enough to take us to the airport.

Missy hoping someone will open the gate so she wont have to jump over

It was nice visit as he dropped us off and we said our goodbyes. Oh, and Kenny did arrive at 8:30 and was mortified he missed us. It’s all ok.

Good thing Don had a bigger car than the smart car when we needed help getting to the airport. It was fun to ride in!

We arrived at the airport on time but hated putting our hosts at an inconvenience. They are a sweet couple and a lot of fun!

Cup of tea before we board the plane. Notice the wooden spoon. Not much plastic waste here.

Our flight was smooth and quick. Only an hour hop to London Gatwick. But, what an adventure we had after we arrived!  All this luggage is going to be the death of us! We had to move all 4 pieces of luggage, 2-50 lb. and 2- 35-40 lb. bags plus two backpacks, to another terminal to catch the train.

Flying over Corbiere Lighthouse, leaving Jersey, Channel Islands

However, we couldn’t use the escalators with so much luggage so had to drag the luggage over to another side of the terminal to go down to the right train tracks. After getting the luggage on the commuter train (mostly Chuck lifting and me pushing) we were off! 30 minutes later we got off at our destination of Croydon. To get a cab we had to get to street level, we are down on the lower level tracks, (no elevators this time) we had to push and pull the luggage up a long incline.

Arriving in London, England

I really thought I was going to have a heart attack! I could not breathe, actually I was more like hyperventilating! Good thing we were walking 2-3 miles a day or I wouldn’t have made it. Chuck would have needed to call an ambulance! Anyway… made it to the top level after a couple of long breaks and found a taxi. He dropped us off in the pouring down rain at our apartment and was kind enough to help us get the luggage to the door. Had to take the luggage up another two flights of stairs.

The London taxis were perfect for all our luggage. It was too cute! We sat in the seat and the luggage was between us and the driver. Chuck wanted to chit chat with the driver but he wanted to listen to his music!

I’m getting weary writing this down! We got here around 1 pm. Dropped off luggage and went and bought groceries and came straight back. We haven’t moved since. I fell in bed and slept a couple of hours. On the plus side, the apartment is very nice. 2 bedroom. It’s small but very functional. We are glad to be here and after a couple days of rest we will start exploring!

And so our next adventure begins!

May God bless you always!

Chuck & Lea Ann
