Windy day, Packing day

Windsurfer
Packing day, sort of. We are moving to our second location tomorrow so we aren’t packing to get on the plane, thank goodness. We’ll just pack enough to get them transferred. I’m a little sad because we have really enjoyed our short 10 day visit here. The Annexe is a wonderful little cottage and we hope to visit Georgie and her adorable little Bichon, Maisie again in the future.

Overlooking St. Ouen’s bay. There are so many places around the island with beach access.

We move to the new location for 30 days and we are just as excited about seeing something new.  Its across the other side of the island. The island is only 9 miles wide so its not very far.  More stuff to explore and it’s out in the country so we may see some more animals.

La Rocco Tower was built between 1796 and 1800 as part of the island’s defenses against the French.

We went back to St. Brelade’s and St. Ouen’s bay. It was very windy and cool but worth the walk. A surfing competition was scheduled but we waited for a while and although many people were out, not much was going on. The surfs weren’t really that high so that could have been it.

While the tide was out, these little sand craters appeared everywhere. Not sure if they are caused by bubbles in the sand or little critters?

Relics left over from the German occupation at Battery Moltke

We drove to our next location just to make sure we knew where we were going. Tomorrow we need to check out here at 11 am but can’t check in until 3 pm. Not a huge issue but we do have some perishables that we’ll need to figure out how to keep cool. I put two small water bottles in the freezer.

Hopefully that will be enough. I ate most of my Jersey ice cream tonight so I would have to throw too much away. I have enough for one more bowl. I should eat it for breakfast! Ice cream and cereal? hmmmm…..

Battery Moltke – French Canon de 155mm GPF – This uncompleted World War II artillery was constructed during the Occupation by the Germans of the Channel Islands but never used.

The other cold items such as butter and milk, we’ll try to keep cool. If not, we’ll just have to buy more. Groceries on the island aren’t too costly but in comparison to Spain and France, they are a little higher.  We gotta eat!

A bunker for protection from enemy fire. There was a hole on one side to put the gun through. Chuck was hiding in this one.
Speaking of groceries, we shop at a co-op. It is a grocery store dedicated to the principles of co-operative trade and here on the island it is owned by over 125,000 members. The profit is returned to its shareholders in respect to their purchases and all members have an equal vote on company policy.

Battery Moltke – These guns are a 21 cm Mörser 18 on the right, and an ex-French 22 cm K 532(f) on the left.

There are many here but as we were driving to St. Ouen’s bay we found what we call “Wegman’s” in Richmond. Its actually named Waitrose but it has all the makings of a mini Wegman’s. It was awesome! Of course just as Wegman’s, the food is more expensive but there are more organics and items you don’t find in small grocery stores.

Le Braye restaurant. One of many along the strips by the beaches
We had a nice day driving around. Got to finish packing and loading the car. We’ll catch up more tomorrow on our trip to St. Elizabeth’s castle.

May God bless you always!
