Sorry for the silence. After recovering from our Paris trip and the last several days of extreme heat, we spent indoors vegging out in front of the TV or working on our computers. It was just way too hot to want to go outside. We had extreme heat advisories until yesterday (Sunday). Saturday was the hottest day at 95 degrees Fahrenheit/35 Celsius. On Sunday, it dropped about 30 degrees to the mid 60’s F/16 C. The cool weather was very much welcome when we don’t have any air conditioning except for a small fan. I’m not sure how these people up here can handle it during these bouts of extreme heat. In 2003 Europe was caught unprepared by a brutal heat wave killing approximately 20,000 people, most of them in France. They are now on high alert to extreme temperatures with advance notifications and cooling centers available. They have done a great job in how they are handling the heat.
We spent most of today packing and getting prepared for our next destination. We will pick up a rental car on Thursday and drive to St. Malo, France. We booked a hotel for Thursday night because our ferry is scheduled to leave for Jersey Island at 8 am on Friday and there are only 2 ferries on Friday.
Jersey is one of the 5 inhabitable channel islands just outside the French coast. We will be staying for a total of 40 days on the island but in two different homes. We’ll be in the first cottage for 10 days and then move across the island for the second stay of 30 days. We couldn’t stay more than 30 days in one location due to some bylaw that wont allow more than 30 days rental in one location. Not a huge issue. Just a mild inconvenience of having to repack and move. I’ll write more about the island and the cottages once we get there and learn more as we are exploring.
In the meantime, we will enjoy the last few sunsets here in Deauville, France and the nice cool weather that is back! We have enjoyed France but ready to move on to explore another location and another culture.
Also, my brother’s birthday is today. Happy Birthday Thomas! I love you brother!!
May God bless you all!
