Chuck has been sneaking some pictures of me taking pictures lately. This was yesterday when it was much cooler.
We are finally having some nice, warm and dry weather! Today is the first day since our arrival that I have been in shorts. Chuck wears them all the time but not me. It has to be really warm for me to put on anything short! We packed up our chairs, a couple of bottles of water, a towel and our kindle readers! We were all set for the beach. Its only about a mile walk so we easily made it the beach and found our spot.

International Triathlon Deauville
Got the chairs out, sat down and started reading. All of a sudden these little black flying bugs were jumping on my legs. I swatted them away thinking OK, they’ll go away shortly but the dang things kept coming. They were all over me. I thought maybe it was the chairs (I hoped not since we brought me from the apartment) so I put the towel down on the sand and sat on it. That worked for about 5 minutes. They were having a field day with the towel and my skin! I looked up at the chair it was covered. What are these pesky little black things? I found out later they are sand fleas. YUCK!

French cheerleaders for the race
I lasted maybe 30 minutes and 2 pages in my book. I told Chuck, I cant deal with this. Let’s go! In case your wondering, they weren’t bothering him!
Other than people sunbathing or swimming in the ocean, there was another event happening at the beach. An international triathlon started early this morning. There were fireworks last night, we assume celebrating the beginning of the celebration. We could barely see them over the tall apartments but could hear them.

A runner crossing the finish line
So, at Chuck’s suggestion, we took the stuff back to the apartment and came back to see what all was happening. We walked around and found the areas where the swimming was designated (in the ocean) and the runners were set up near the beach and on the boardwalk. We couldn’t find where the bicyclists were riding so we assumed within the town area. We walked around all the shops but if you don’t compete, the shops weren’t for you. And we don’t compete but it was interesting looking at all the gear and the advertised cars. We found a Peugeot 508 for 50,000 Euros. Only a mere $57,000 is USD.

Cheering on the French
We made our way around to some bleachers that was at the finish line. We listened to American music over the speakers, although no one here speaks English! We noticed the majority of the music playing in the stores or restaurants is American music. We lucked out and was able to see the first few runners come in. We had flags and banners to root for our favorite team. We waved flags for France since that’s where we happen to be. It was fun. I only had my iPhone so I don’t have but a few pictures. But, this was much better than sand fleas!
