Exploring Deauville

Colorful lifeguard station on the beach
According to the local weatherman, we decided that if we wanted to walk around the beach, we better get a move on this morning rather than waiting until evening.

The tide was out so the beach was deeper or maybe wider than normal.

Storms were predicted for late afternoon. The weather was nice. Still needed a jacket but no rain or wind!

To give you a little knowledge of where we are, Deauville, France is a commune (or small community) in the Normandy region in northwestern France.

Deauville is between Le Havre an Caen. All in the Normandy region. About 2 hours from Paris

Population is around 3,700. Very small but much to do! There is a horse racing course, grand casino, sailboat races, international horse jumping, many marinas, since its along the Atlantic coast and beautiful hotels. We plan to visit many of these venues.

The umbrellas or Parasols are in brilliant, beautiful colors

Walking along the beach we saw the strangest looking seashells, mainly, I guess is because we don’t see them in the USA.

However, after researching to find what it was called, Atlantic Jackknife clam,

Atlantic Jackknife Clam

I found it actually originated on the North American Atlantic coast and is considered an exotic species in Europe.  An exotic species is found in areas outside its original “home”. There were millions of these shells on the beach.

We found the walk to be peaceful. There we a few dogs (off their leashes) running around playing, two horseback riders at the edge of the water and people out walking or laying on blankets reading.

The horses were beautiful and walking gracefully

If you wanted to get lunch or ice cream, there were plenty of places to stop and partake.

Little colorful stands that sold crepes and ice cream

We did find the pricing to be a little ridiculous so we decided to stop at small ice cream shop for a coke zero for 2.50 euros each.

When needing a break, here are the ‘colorful and lively” benches!

If we had stopped at one of the eateries, a glass of coke zero was 5 euros.  Ice is extra!

Along the beach, the poles had different objects like balls, fish, trains, houses so that when out sunbathing you’ll know where your family is sitting. Between the beachball and the chicken, right?

By the time we returned, we had walked right at 3 miles and my ankle was screaming so I was glad to be back with my feet propped up.

More hotels, same design type. Very pretty.

All in all, a very nice, pleasant and peaceful day!

May God bless you all!
