A stroll in the park

Courtyard used for venues such as weddings or concerts

Beautiful day for a walk in the park. With only a high of 73 degrees, its amazing that we needed to seek out shade as frequently as we did. It was such a nice day but with no wind it was a little warm. Getting sunburned was easily done today. Not complaining at all! We loved it. I chose to not wrap my ankle today and try my tennis shoes. I have been wearing my sandals with my ankle wrapped. Not the best idea but I did ok. Well worth the discomfort. Flat land walking doesn’t bother me but walking up and down inclines or stairs irritate my injury somewhat. It’s not slowing me down, much. I’m finally able to get out completely without crutches so I’ll deal with the swelling and the discomfort and move on to the next day. Its all good!

Unique entrance to Parque de la Palma

The park we spent the day at is called Parque de la Palma. Such a beautiful park with many different types of animals, trees and flowers. It was once voted as one of the top 25 parks in Europe which is pretty nice considering there are only 5 parks in Spain.

Many different flowering bushes along the path

Roses

Its totally man-made including the small pond and opened in the mid 1990’s.

3 of these sculptured heads made from clay were around the park

You are only a 5 minute walk to the beach and typical tourist traps but you feel as if you are in the country. And when I say country, I mean barnyard country. The roosters love to talk and talk and talk…..!! All the animals are accustomed to humans, they just follow you around like a little puppy. Probably has a lot to do with the park selling food when you walk in.

Palmed tree lined walking path

There were also palm trees of all sorts, hence the name, lined up in many different parts of the park.

A cute zebra just waiting to be ridden. (not really, he’s the only plastic animal in the park)

There were children and families playing and relaxing around the palm trees since it was cooler and more shady in those areas.

The female pigeons have some pretty colors

The cactus garden has more than 2000 cacti in about 450 species. There were so many and some were flowering beautifully.

Most of the cacti were blooming

The pond had many different species of turtles, fish and ducks. Most of them were getting along.

Man made pond

Some of the babies were picking on the adult turtles so the turtle decided he had enough and jumped back in the water. Bratty ducklings!

This poor turtle was being pecked by the ducklings. He finally jumped!

We explored all the many flowers and trees before deciding to stop for lunch. Chuck decided he wanted a McRib so he got his Spanish McRib! The day was relaxing and we really enjoyed the sun, the walk and the relaxation of the day!

Dotty

Milagros – I’m thinking the wraps on their legs is to keep the others from pecking their feet?

This peacock was hiding way back in the back. We couldn’t coax it out.

Roosters EVERYWHERE!! And they let you know they were around.

A week from today we will finalize our packing for leaving on Wednesday, June 5 to fly to Paris, France. From there we will drive to Deauville, Normandy, France. Its only about 2 1/2 hours drive. Found out today that we will definitely get to meet up with my brother and sister in law in Normandy. It’s just pure luck we are both in France at the same time. It’ll be exciting.
