Catedral-Basilica de Santa Maria de Mallorca
One of our final stops while on the cruise was on a small island located on the East side of Spain between Barcelona and Alicante. Beautiful little resort community with a gorgeous cathedral located on the waterfront. It was absolutely stunning with the amazing architecture. The Catedral-Basilica de Santa Marie de Mallorca, a Gothic landmark, was started in 1276 (thirteenth century). It is a Levantine Gothic style and has one of the largest Rose windows in the world known as the Gothic eye. I’m including stock photos but we didn’t get that close. It is beautiful. These windows were added in the 16th century.

The cathedral was completed in the 17th century however the 1851 earthquake required it to be renovated in the 1900s. Much of the structure was kept and only minor changes were made so today the cathedral looks much like it did when it was completed in the early 1800’s.

Other than the cathedral, there were other castles throughout the island that we didn’t explore.

The massive yachts were what draws our attention to this island. We walked for at least a mile from one end of the marina to the other and we still didn’t see all of them.

The architecture here is delightful and amazing to look at
They were beautiful. Both sailing and power yachts.

Most landscaping and trees were growing uphill
We watched as young sailors tried their hand at sailing these tiny sailboats. It was so cute.

The wind was pretty high so they had to tow the little ones back in to the marina. I’m sure it was safer.

Walking around the island, the flowers smelled so fragrant and were beautiful.

Flowers were growing in most landscaping along with palm trees
We liked this island but it was very chilly and windy. Its a nice place to visit but we really liked Alicante better.

Our Ship – Vision of the Seas – Royal Caribbean
Today is the 13th of May, we actually visited Palma de Mallorca on May 5th. We have both been sick since we arrived on May 6th and then spraining my ankle has kept us both indoors. Hopefully we are on the end of it all and we can get outdoors and start exploring this beautiful city of Benalmadena, Spain because I for one am getting stir crazy! We haven’t even had a chance to unpack everything. Hopefully tomorrows post will have more interesting topics – outdoors!!
